LIME Montego Bay Jerk Festival Pays Tribute to Maroon & Taino – Aug. 1

Montego Bay, Jamaica (July 03, 2014). The LIME Montego Bay Jerk Festival will feature for the first time, a special Maroon and Taino Tribute and Jerk Demonstration during its fifth staging, August 1, 2014 at Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre. The festival will open with a Ceremonial Maroon blessing and libations officiated by Colonel Lumsden of the Charles Town Maroons and the newly installed paramount Chieftess, Gaamand Gloria Simms, leader of the Maroon Indigenous Women’s Council. This year’s Celebrity Chef Cook-off has some of Western Jamaica’s Who’s Who personalities and will create the kind of excitement that leads to breathless and unforgettable moments spent with family and friends. The following are confirmed Celebrity Chefs: Sharon Ffolkes Abrahams, (State Minister, Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce); Mrs. Paula Kerr-Jarrett (Attorney-at-Law), Mr. Edmund Bartlett (Co-Founder, Caribbean Tourism Investment Company Limited), Mr. Robert Russell, (Chairman, Pier One), as well as, others to be confirmed. Festival founders John & Kamilah Lindo, are passionate about making the Montego Bay Festival the premier Jerk Festival in Jamaica. The Festival is designed to attract and appeal to individuals and companies that are trendsetters in music, food and beverage. The number of patrons has been steadily growing since inception in 2010, as a result in 2013, the festival drew 15,000 patrons. A consistent draw for foodies through food tourism, the Festival facilitates mouth-watering jerk entrees, provides activities for children and presents authentic Jamaican entertainment tailored for families. The evening into the night will entail a grand concert/stage show with a mixture of gospel, comedy, soca, reggae, singers and DJ’s. Gates open at 10 am and ends at 12 midnight. The jerk booths and or any other booths at the festival are rented to vendors. Philanthropy is important to the organizers of The LIME Montego Bay Jerk Festival and as such, each year a portion of the revenue earned is donated to charity and to assist the less fortunate within the society.
